BSC vs Sewanee on 7 November 2010 at BSC

Today, we played an old rival in Sewanee. We cwertainly appeared to be heading in the right direction at the start of the game, by scoring an early goal. Sean Head scored in the 4th minute, off an assist fron Brynjar Arnason to make the score BSC 1, Sewanee 0. We all thought this would bethe beginning of really good things that were going to happen in this game. But, once again, poor mistakes led to their first corner and first goal. We had possession going forward in the middle third of the field and were pushing forward, then we played a poor pass right to them and they counter attacked and got the corner. They played it in and another poor clearance and a shot that hit the post and bounced off our keeper's back into the goal, in the 23rd minute. That made the score 1:1. I just can not believe at this point in our season, we still have no purpose in what we are trying to accomplish. We either play poor passes or ill timed passes and lose possession immediately. It wasn't that Sewanee made these happen with any kind of pressure, as we just did it on our own.

We scored our 2nd goal just before half, in the 34th minute, on a ball shot by Andrew Stein and Brynjar Arnason followed it up on the back side for his first goal of the year. The score now stood BSC 2, Sewanee 1. That is how the half would end.

We started the 2nd half and pressed forward, when Sean Head played the ball to the back side on a run from Jarred Brookins, who scored his first collegiate goal as well, in the 54th minute, to make the score BSC 3, Sewanee 1. However, in the 64th minute, Sewanee got another cornwer kick and again we left a man making a run into the box unmarked for their 2nd goal. BSC 3, Sewanee 2. In all actuality, we should have scored many more goals, but we just seem to either miss our chances with one pass too many, or shoot poorly. Our biggest problem today and basically all season, other than our first two games of the year, is that we have extremely poor passes, poor choices and absolutely no purpose in what we are trying to do. Our first touch has been an issue all season as well. But, I truly think our main problem, for wahtever reason this season, is that with no purpose or desire to excel, we lose all our passion and chemistry.

Before the game today, I left them a statement I wrote yesterday for them to think about and make some choice in which direction they wanted to go. I know it is very late in our season, but in my opinion, it is never too late to make a difference. I thought I would share this quote with all who dare to read this blog. It was titled " A team of Purpose or a Team of Individuals"? Here it is: "Each person must find a PURPOSE in order to be able to continue our TRADITION of the team beintg the Superstar, or you will continue to destroy it as Individuals! You make the choices, thus you can either Make the Difference or Remain the Difference! You Decide, 7 November 2010..."

We have our last game next Saturday, in Rome, Georgia against a very old rival and foe, Berry College. the game is at 3:00 PM et. I hope you will all come and help us and our seniors go out winners. Until then...
