BSC vs Berry College on 13 November 2010 at Berry College

Our last game of the 2010 season was a emblematic of our entire season. It was a tale of 2 halves and poor decisions that has been our achilles heel all season. The first half was a pretty good example of our ability to play good soccer, but not be able to convert our chances when they presented themselves. We played with a lot of intensity and emotion, but could not score, which has been the norm for this season. The half ended with the score 0:0.

The 2nd half began and we started ok, but in the 57th minute, we had a very senseless foul about 45 yards out. It was a nonsense foul, but in a harmless area of the field. Well it should have been a harmless area, but I forgot how the last 5 goals were scored on us. They were all on set pieces from corner kicks or free kicks from 30 or more yards out. So, this would be another goal scored from 45 yards out against us by not concentrating on what is our purpose. They scored their 2nd goal in the 85th minute on a served ball into the box that we did not make the play on.

The game would end with the final score BSC 0, Berry 2. In concluding this season, there are a few things I must discuss. First, it certainly was not what anyone expected this season to be. We had such a positive start to the season, that we felt it would be a great year. Things started unraveling in our 3rd game, but actually, it was noticed during pre-season in August, that something was not right on this team. It lacked the most important aspect of any team...chemistry. All the ingredients just did not mix into a common mixture. I thought after our first 2 games, we had found the missing mixture, but unfortunately, it just did not stay mixed for long. Why and for what reason, I can not tell you. Today showed that extremely well. As Im said, a tale of 2 halv es and of the entire season. We just did not have the strong leadership we needed on the field. We told them that once they were in the locker room and on the field between the white lines it was business and not personal. Out of the locker room and outside the white lines it is personal. We just could not see the difference between the two. We were a very good team from the back to the final third, but once in the final third, we could not excell as we had in the past.

The second thing I must discuss as I wind up our 2010 season blog, is to thank the 6 seniors for their honor, loyalty, integrity and character in coming to this program in 2007, knowing they would never be able to play for any championship or post season play because of our being ineligible due to NCAA compliance restrictions. That tells you what kind of people they are and for that I will be forever grateful. They have set the table for all the players that have come after them to establish a tradition in our new division. They are all unselfish, honorable young men, tat should be very proud of what they have helped to establish in our program going forward. The seniors to be thanked are, Shachar Hovan, Kenan LeParc, Carter McLean, Andrew Shelton, Andrew Stein and Tim Tincher. To each of you, thank you from the bottom of my heart!
