BSC vs Oglethorpe on 5 November 2010 at BSC

Well, the ineptness continues once again! We lost 1:2. The score at half was 0:0. Both of their goals came off freekicks from about 25 yards out. They were created by our lost possession in the defensive third and then a bad foul. They scored the 1st goal in the 58th minute and we came right back 1 minute later to tie the score on a penalty kick off a hand ball in the box. 8 minutes later we had possession and instead of clearing the ball up the field, we dribble into the middle, lose the ball and then foul. They scored again to make it 1:2 and that is how it would end.

I am having a difficult time understanding how we can continue to control games, yet lose because of bad decisions and bad choices. Just 48 hours ago in training, we worked on what they would do and we did it to near perfection. We worked on bringing the ball wide, playing give and go and then crossing it in for a goal. How they continue to revert to old habits is beyond my wildest imagination. I have never had a team of individuals before, but now I know what it feels like to have one. This team does not want to be a team, because they don't want to listen to what we try to teach. I guess the old saying of it is hard to break old bad habits is very true when it comes to this team. We can't even pass a ball properly, let alone make the right decisions about how to score, especially on free kicks. We had a perfect situation for our 94 play, but of course they did not read it. Unfortunately, we can't call time out and set it up. We must make the right decision in the actual flow of the game. But, unfortunately, we can't do that either. "You can take the horse to the water, but you can't make him drink, unless he wants to"! We just don't want to drink, we would rather watch and see if it will come to our mouths automatically.

This is the first time in 28 years, that a team has beaten us on 2 freekicks. This is truly a year of first or rather bad firsts. Previous BSC teams would have put Oglethorpe in their pockets and said watch how many goals we will beat you, as we toy with them.

Oh well, on to our next game this Sunday at 2:00 PM against an old rival in Sewanee. It will be interesting to see what we come up with next. Will it be another game of bad firsts or will it be something special to build on? Come out and see what happens if you dare....
